The Zonker Leech is defined by its use of a full-length rabbit strip as the primary structural and movement element. The zonker strip is typically tied along the top or wrapped through the body, creating a broad, flowing profile that expands and contracts naturally during movement. Rabbit fur retains water efficiently, adding mass and stability while producing constant motion even at slow retrieve speeds. The hide backing maintains alignment and prevents twisting, ensuring the fly tracks cleanly through the water column. A slender underbody supports the strip without adding unnecessary bulk, preserving a smooth taper from head to tail. The overall construction results in a leech pattern characterized by sustained motion, consistent profile control, and durable material performance.
