The Mimic May Fly is a highly effective trout pattern developed to imitate emerging mayfly nymphs as they ascend through the water column — one of the most vulnerable stages in the insect’s life cycle. Its slim, lifelike profile and natural coloration make it irresistible to trout feeding just below the surface.

With its segmented body, subtle flash ribbing, and mobile tail fibers, the Mimic May offers the perfect blend of realism and attraction. It performs exceptionally well during Baetis (BWO) and Ephemerella hatches, when trout key in on mayflies drifting in current seams or slow pools.

Equally effective on tailwaters, spring creeks, and freestone rivers, the Mimic May can be fished solo, as a dropper beneath a dry fly, or as part of a two-nymph rig. Its adaptability makes it a must-have fly for any serious trout angler’s box.
